Use against egg states of spider mites

Promanal® Neu should be applied shortly prior to the hatching of spider mites and/or at the stages of development of the wooded plants as indicated in the table. The further developed the spider-mite eggs are and the stronger their respiration, the more successful the spraying treatment. Against fruit-tree spider mites that have already hatched, its effectiveness is limited.

Use against other harmful pathogens

In addition to spider mites, the treatment of shoots with Promanal® Neu also combats the winter forms of scale insects (e.g. the San José scale).
This treatment is also effective against the winter eggs of various aphid species and the eggs of the winter moth.

Combination capacity with other agents

Promanal® Neu can (in an 0.3 % concentration) also be used as a component for mixtures to be used in the thinning of fruits. Promanal® Neu can also be added to other insecticeds to increase the effectiveness against the pear gall midge, the psylla pyri and various aphid species.

Application technique and application conditions

Promanal® Neu is used as a 2 % solution.
In the spraying process, it is essential to apply the solution as evenly as possible to all affected trees. Using large amounts of water and travelling directly towards the corresponding lanes has been proven as an effective approach (required amount of water: 2 x 400-500 l, each with half the required amount).
Do not apply shortly prior to anticipated rainfall or in frosty conditions.
The use of Promanal® Neu poses no harm to predatory mites (Typhlodromus pyri).

Mode of action

Promanal® Neu has for many years proved itself as a reliable weapon against wax and armoured scales, mealy bugs and spider mites in indoor gardens. The pests are covered with a thin film of oil and die off after a short time. The dead insects turn dark in colour and can be brushed off or fall off by themselves after some time.

As scale insects and mealy bugs often live hidden under old scales or hair in their ice stage, it is recommended to repeat spraying after two weeks. After this period the larvae will have hatched and will be reliably killed by the film of oil. Plants acquire a nice sheen after being treated with Promanal® Neu. There is no need for the additional application of a leaf brightener.

Promanal® Neu is strictly a contact agent. Therefore, plants to be treated must be covered with this solution from all sides; it is recommended to perform spraying with a large amount of water.
Since the eggs of scales and wool lice often live well-hidden under shed scales and/or wool, repeat spraying is recommended after 14 days.
After the elapse of this time period, the young stages of these pests have hatched and are then reliably killed off by the oil film.
The treatment with Promanal®® Neu also lends to plants a pleasant shine; this means that the use of an agent to promote shiny leaves is rendered unnecessary.

Crop safety

Promanal® Neu is in general well compatible to hard-leaved decorative plants.
On oleander, anthurias, ferns, Ficus longifolia and Aphelandra incompatibility/intolerability may occur; therefore, a test spraying on these species is recommended.
Furthermore, it is generally recommended (prior to the treatment of larger plant inventories) to perform a test spraying on individual plants. Soft-leaved species and blooms should not be treated with Promanal® Neu because they may react sensitively. Blooms may be damaged by spraying with agents containing paraffin oil.
Newly-potted plants (or those which are severely damaged by dryness or other environmental influences) should never be sprayed with Promanal® Neu.
Paraffin-oil preparations should generally not be used at all in direct sunlight.
Also, any treated plants should not be exposed to direct sunlight for several days (to avoid the risk of burns).
When using these in fir cultures, always consider that under certain circumstances, blue firs may lose their typical blue colouring.

Combination capacity with other agents

  • Promanal® Neu has a high mixing capacity with numerous standard insecticides.
  • Do not mix with fungicides containing sulphur, Dithianon or captan. Spray fungicides containing Dithianon or captan at least 4 days before and at the earliest 4 days after treatment with Promanal® Neu.
  • Do not mix with products containing copper or sulphur.
